We first discovered Bipolar Sunshine (@bipolarsunshine) when they supported Liam Fray at the Scala (@Scalalondon)back in September and have been addicted to them ever since! Bipolar are a Mancunian outfit fronted by Adio Marchment, an indie-singing, gospel sort of pop rapper with great fashion sense. He has been described as a cross between Mike Skinner and Damon Albarn, this is pretty spot on. This was one of their "first big" headline shows, and being at XOYO (@XOYO_London) we were very excited.
We had been hearing bad things about XOYO as a venue as colleagues and friends had all commented on how small and strange the venue was, however, we did not have the same opinion. Yes, the venue is small but intimate gigs often giving a better sound quality than bigger venues. We recently saw Bastille at Ally Pally and were disappointed when we compared it to the set we saw in a tent at Glasto2013. Another thing we liked about the venue was there were different levels and therefore the short arses amongst us could still see the band!
We got to the venue early as wanted to see Kimberly Anne (@kimberlyanneiam) perform who we saw along side Bipolar back in November she blew us away then with her soulful, captivating voice, and her teabags. Yet again we were blown away. She stood on stage on her tod with her guitar and entertained the crowd with her soulful unique singing voice. Her songs are catchy and she even had the crowd singing along with her! Discovering artists like Kimberly Anne reminds us off the importance of going to see support bands as you just don't know who or what you are going to see...that leads us onto Indiana....who we will sum up briefly - girl singer lacking stage presence with electro vibe. We were not taken by this band however they were recently featured on radio 1's play list.
At around 9:50 Bipolar Sunshine finally made it on stage and last nights gig was a huge step up to seeing them perform at Electrowerkz (@Electrowerkz). They performed new tracks and had Gone with the wind playing in the background, decent lights and smoke effects! All 4 members of the band seemed to be having so much fun and this positive energy filled the room. They ended on love more and worry less which was then heard being sung in Old Street station by numerous gig goers! If you've never heard of Bipolar Sunshine before you should check them out on spotify or itunes and get yourself to one of their gigs as you will not be disappointed!
